Medical Professionals

Physicians, nurses and other health professionals who want to contribute to the humanitarian medical work of the International Medical Committee (IMC) can tell the committee by email.

Professional Contribution

Humanitarian medical work depends on people: on the knowledge, judgment and commitment of the health professionals who provide the care.

There is currently no formal volunteer program, and this site does not take applications. You can express your interest by email, but that is not an application: it does not create a volunteer appointment, a job offer, insurance coverage, professional credentialing or any official status with IMC or the World Organization for Peace, and it does not commit anyone to a deployment.

Skills the Work Draws On

IMC’s areas of work call on emergency and trauma care, primary care, maternal and child health, infectious disease, public health and coordination in crisis settings.

Physicians, nurses and other health professionals from these and related fields are welcome to write.

The Mission Behind the Work

Any collaboration follows the committee’s humanitarian medical mission: timely and dignified care for vulnerable people, without distinction of origin, belief or condition, in cooperation with local health authorities and the network of the World Organization for Peace.

Emergency Response Capacity

Part of IMC’s response capacity consists of health professionals who can join a response once an emergency is declared. How the committee works in those situations is set out under humanitarian medical response.

Expressions of interest help the committee know which skills could be available.

Community Health

Not all humanitarian health work happens in emergencies. Community health — primary care, prevention, vaccination, maternal and child health — also needs professionals who can contribute over time.

Knowledge Sharing

Professional cooperation also means sharing knowledge between professionals and institutions.

Professional Standards

Humanitarian medical work demands the same professional and ethical standards as any other practice: working within one’s qualifications and scope, following the regulations of the country where care is given, protecting patient confidentiality and treating every person with dignity.

How to Express Interest

Write to the institutional team. A useful first message includes:

  • your name;
  • your profession and specialty;
  • your country of practice;
  • the languages you work in;
  • your areas of interest (emergency response, disaster medicine, conflict settings, community health);
  • your general availability.

Please do not send identity documents, licenses or medical credentials in a first message.
