About the International Medical Committee

IMC is where medical care enters the humanitarian work of the World Organization for Peace. Its attention goes to people whose health, and whose access to care, is put at risk by an emergency or a crisis.

The committee shares a conviction with WOFP: looking after people’s health is part of building peace, and access to dignified medical care is a matter of human dignity.

The committee’s emblem, a winged caduceus, carries its name in English, Spanish, Italian and French — International Medical Committee, Comité Médico Internacional, Comitato Medico Internazionale and Comité Médical International — together with the name of the World Organization for Peace.

IMC’s mission is timely and dignified medical care for vulnerable people affected by emergencies, disasters and conflicts, whatever their origin, belief or circumstances.

In practice, the person comes first. The committee looks for those with the least access to healthcare, and works through local authorities, health organizations and the WOFP network.

IMC is also committed to using its resources responsibly and to reporting clearly on its work to donors, partners and international organizations. What has been published so far is listed under Transparency & Accountability.
